A healthy child is a happy child and a happy child feels well and a child who feels well will always learn well.
I am so blessed that my son is happy and healthy. He has a lot of energy and is very creative. He loves to learn. He loves to write and read and definitely loves to try new things. I am very proud of him. He amazes me all the time.
He is cherished. He is wanted.
He motivates me to do more and to be more. He is our rock. He teaches us so much. This boy really has a wonderful soul and a heart of gold. I look forward to spending time with him. I often think of activities that we can do together and places that we can explore together. There is no other way I would rather spend my weekends and everyday than with my family. My rock, my inspiration and everything!!!
I want him to have the best childhood he can ever experience. I wish for him to have the fondest memories and to feel the love that both my husband and i have for him. That is so very important. I want him to know and understand that he is our gift. He is wanted. He means so much to us.

It is awesome now how he is into Loorducation. He knows when I am taking a picture of him and asks questions about what I ma going to say  about the picture and where am I going to put it up. He gives feedback and shares his ideas. that is important. It is vital that his voice is heard and I am so thrilled that he enjoys sharing and expressing himself. We are forever grateful. FOREVER.

Very Inspiring Blog Questions

1.Why did you start your blog?

Well, I first started my blog because it was a mandatory element for one of my last classes in my Master of Education program. I started a blog because I had to post topics from class and about all things related to education. I never would have thought to start a blog if it was not for that class. I am so glad that I did. My blog has turned into something special and really got me into writing especially when I decided to write my first non class post. It was about my son. That was in September of 2013. From that very first post of sharing part of my son’s autism journey, I was hooked. From there I started writing frequently, sharing a little more of his journey each day, along with the stuff that was need to be done for class. Ever since, I became a blogger.

2. What is the book that you have read that has touched you the most?

The book that I have read that has touched me the most is The Four Agreements, by Don Miguel Ruiz. But then there is The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. Those are 2 great, inspiring books of wisdom. They have really touched me and made an impression on my life to stay strong and be positive. As well, we are so much more than we believe ourselves to be.

3. If you could eat dinner with a famous person who is still living, whom would you choose?

Oprah Winfrey. I admire her. She is very strong and empowering to women all over. She is an inspiration to go out and chase your dreams. She is very successful and always pays it forward. She is a role model in my eyes.

4. Where is the one place you have visited that gives you complete calmness?

One place that I have visited that gives my complete calmness is Quito, Ecuador. That place is peaceful and beautiful. You can smell hopes and dreams in the air. The landscapes are wonderful. The weather is amazing. The total atmosphere is beyond aww inspiring. And..that is to say the least. I love going to Quito and I feel very blessed to have been there many times with my husband and several times with our son, too.

5. Are you a bucket list person. If so name one thing on it?

I would not say I am a bucket list person but one thing that I really would love to do is to travel to Africa and stay there for a month to teach the children. I would bring them gift boxes of school supplies and clothes. I would help them read and play games with them. I believe that they would teach me so much more than I would teach them. This is definitely something that is dear to my heart. I would document my time there. In that way, I can show the children here how fortunate they are and how really good we have it. That, in turn, can inspire others to pay it forward. This can be done through donations among other positive things.

6. What is the goal for your blog?

I want people to read and feel inspired. A goal is to keep the readers engaged and coming back for more with posts that truly come from the heart with passion. With that will come featured publications with highly reputable sites that will share with with the world.

7. What is a day well spent to you?

A day well spent is a day that is with my husband and son. One filled with laughter and cuddles. A day where we smile, have fun and enjoy one another’s company among great food, books and TV or spending quality time together going out.

8. How do you start your day?

I start my day by getting myself ready along with our son. I make an organic green smoothie before breakfast each morning. Then I will usually make coffee and breakfast.  On school days, I get my son up and ready for the day. I pack his lunch bag and give him his vitamins. He eats a little something then we wait for the bus to pick him up. After, I get my husband all set. The kitchen gets cleaned up and the day of creativity begins.

9. What is your favorite holiday and why?

My favorite holiday is Christmas. It is my favorite because it is such a special day. A day of love to celebrate the birth of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Not too many words can explain it, but the day is magical and peaceful. It is so special to see children believe. We can learn so much from them. The smell, the wonder..everything.

10. Are you where you want to be professionally and if not, what will you do about it?

I am working on many things. I love to multitask, it is how I can stay focused. If I become overwhelmed with one thing, I can go continue working on another project. I always like to have something to do. I am working on promoting myself throughout all social media platforms. I am documenting all of my work. I am making a name for myself. I share my passion for education, art and autism and encourage and help others along the way. I put passion in everything I do and have faith and believe that my dreams are coming true. It is important to keep a positive attitude. I have my Bachelor of Science degree in Child Studies with a concentration in early childhood education as well I hold a Master Degree in Education with a concentration in teaching and learning. I am an educator, artist, autism advocate, photographer….the key thing is to keep me believing in me and know that God put this desire in my heart to share it with others. For that, I am thankful and blessed. I will keep on going, enjoying the journey that I must create to open doors.

11. What is your favorite quote?

Fall Into Learning...

Optimal learning requires the use of the whole body and all of our senses. Learning is an interactive, hands on experience. Children learn by doing. I really enjoy making educational arts and crafts as well as sensory activities. I also enjoy documenting the activities / lessons /arts & crafts I create in edited photos for Loorducation. The art of teaching and the fine art of education fascinate me. I believe in making learning fun. Learning is a hands on approach, using all senses for the ultimate learning experience. I love to design unique educational related items.
This is the first ever logo type image that I created on photoshop. I am about to design a new logo for Loorducation. I have to brainstorm and sketch some ideas as well.

My Boy: Part 85

Jorge Juan was in a great, energetic mood today. I am exhausted but he was super happy and that made me happy. His energy was non stop. He helped out cooking, putting groceries away and he even ate all of his dinner – by himself. I am so proud of that. After each and every spoon, literally, he told me that was the best food he has ever eaten. Every time I wash his hair, which, by the way he loves now; he tells me that I am the best mom ever. I love him so much and I do not know what I would do without him. He is such a blessing.

He had a good time at karate class, although he was dancing in line. He loves music just like Daddy. What matters is that he was happy. He is healthy and I am so grateful for that. Days like this, autism seems like a great blessing in disguise. It really does. I am one blessed mommy. I do not like labels but being that my son is high functioning is inspiring, to me and to many others. Like I always say, it has not always been that way. A lot of patience, love, hope, prayers and faith went into it among time but the biggest one of all is knowing that my son will succeed, with unwavering FAITH. I am here to say, do not give up. Now, I would never want a cure for my son’s autism but that is just me and our autism journey. Every journey is unique and I can understand parents who desire a cure for autism because of the severity of it. I can not relate but I can understand them wanting to have a cure for their child, I get it. Autism is a wide spectrum but we are all in this together.

The HEART...

The Start of the Heart

The start of the heart is where it’s at.. The other day I quickly, and by quickly I mean in 30 seconds, made a heart graphic for a dear friend online. This friend is battling cancer, Chron’s disease and heart failure as well. NOT only that…BUT she has kicked cancer’s butt before – but wait, she was also in Hospice, for a very, very long time. She has been through Chemo and hospitalizations. She almost died before, YET she is still standing. The doctors tell her that she is dying again…Doctors are human, like you and I’ they can be wrong. right? Yes, they can. She did it before, she can do it again. Let us fill her bucket with so much hope and support that it will never run out.
Needless to say her plate is full. It is only natural to show her how much she is loved and to let her know that we all have her back.  But before this, another dear friend of mine, Lori, came up with the hashtag #teamrachele. This is to show everyone, especially our friend Rachele, that we are on her team and that we support her wholeheartedly. We use that hashtag to send her pics, memes, quotes and anything that we can to lift her spirits. We have to let her know that she is special. We met her through the autism community online. Many of us involved in this outpouring of support have children on the autism spectrum. Each and everyday, our friendships evolve and we get to know one another on a deeper, personal level and I am so blessed that our friend Rachele is here and sharing her journey with us all. She really is an amazing person who has unwavering strength. She can teach people a thing or two. She rocks and that is only part of the reason why we love her and she has our full support.
Now, on Facebook, there are at least 30 of us using the heart as our profile, group and cover photo pics. It is amazing and awesome to see the fantastic support that she really needs. To many, it is just another cute graphic; to us, it is the Love, support and coming together of friends. And, yes, this is real life. It is the start of the heart…

You have GOT to See This!!!

Hello everyone, thank you for being a part of Loorducation. Lately I have been preparing for my state exams. Got one down : ). As well, I am always working on projects, activities, posts, updates and all things early childhood education. It is my passion. For a while now I have owned http://www.loorducation.com and have many ideas for the site. I just have to get it all organized. It is very exciting to think of all the wonderful possibilities. For now Loorducation is all across the web, of course in blog form. A big thing for us right now is http://www.facebook.com/loorducation. That is where I share my ideas, pics, activities and other things education related. I hope you all stop by and give my page a like and follow if you do not do so already and if you do, I ma hoping you can share with some friends. I also do a lot of autism advocacy and awareness/acceptance on my facebook page. What you see on that page is a part of what I intend Loorducation.com to be. A place where ideas can be shared. Facebook is a great tool to “get out there”. The community I have continues to grow with more support all the time. I am excited that people are excited about what I have offered this past year on Loorducation, and still there is so much more to do and learn. About this wordpress blog in which I started because of an M.Ed. program requirement has become a forefront to share my son’s autism journey and it has opened doors to help others. Yet, this is only the beginning. In order to spread awareness and enlightenment, I started http://www.loorducation.blogspot.com back in April. For the most part, I just copy and paste what is here, give it a different title or what have you. Sometimes I may add a unique touch. This was to branch out and gain a bigger audience, to spread my messages and share my passion. Loorducation is on http://www.instagram.com/loorducation where I use it as a virtual photo album to share experiences of teaching, learning and education. I like to call it education in pictures and i hope you can check it out. I take great pride and passion in creating my photos in which I take my self and edit them. They are all so special and mean a lot. They come from the heart and are captured in a natural state, no staging. Seeing my photos will give you a look into what I love to do and the outcomes of my work and journey. I have also used Flipboard to make some flip magazines for Loorducation. It was something fun and I used it as another tool on the web to get the name Loorducation out there and to learn differnt ways in which i may present my craft. Let’s not forget about http://www.twitter.com/loorducation. It is a positive community where you never know who you are going to meet and inspire or who may inspire you. I have http://www.facebook.com/loorducation posts automatically connected to it, so whatever I post on FB will go right there. A great, faster, effective way to get your message and voice out there. There are many things to learn and a good thing to be a part of too. On http://www.pinterest.com/loorducation, you can see some things that are of my interest, pics of things I love and care about, arts and crafts, etc. I use it sparingly until I have some created some more products and/or activities to share. A Little Bit...

My Boy: Part 70

“Is there school today, Mommy?” Yes, there is!!! Rainy day, but there is school today. Only a few days left, so enjoy the last days of Kindergarten. It just seems like yesterday that he started Kindergarten at a new school and with a school bus. This school year has gone by so fast. It was a great year and my son has been blessed with great teachers, therapists and principal. The team really works together for the benefit of Jorge Juan. They know him very well. What they have to say at the PPT meeting is right on. I just sit back and smile because I know that they pay close attention to my son giving what they have to say about his personality, characteristics, obsessions etc.

A quick rundown – Jorge is 5 years old and will turn 6 on July 21st. He was diagnosed with autism after his 3rd birthday. At that time, he was in the middle of the spectrum – Non verbal among other delays. He loves animals, insects and tiny toys. He has been reading since before he could speak and now is reading well beyond the benchmarks fro Kinder. He is kind and lovable. He loves babies and kids. He is an orange belt in Tiny Tiger Tang Soo Do karate. He loves nature. He flaps and shakes his hands when he is excited but not as often as he use to do when he was younger. He used to run back and forth humming super loud. He loves books and riding the school bus. That is just part of him in a small nutshell. there is so much beyond this. SO MUCH : )

Autism will never stop him. He is on a roll. He is improving all the time. His autism does not need a CURE. Who would want to cure a child that is full of LOVE, happiness, affection, peace…..and has so much to TEACH the world? Jorge Juan just may be the CURE for the typical world.

My Boy: The Story Continues..

Meeting with the social worker today went well.

Jorge has been displaying odd behaviors of hissing, sucking his arm, putting hand sin his mouth and other oral fixations; so this was a great opportunity to have a chat and ask questions.

I have my undergrad degree in Child Studies, it can be difficult to come up with solutions that may help my son. I do not know what it is. I think that happens with a lot of us. I can remember at times it was easier for me to deal with 22 4 and 5 year olds than to handle the meltdowns of my son while dropping him off at pre kindergrten. (He was in the classroom upstairs and the classroom where I taught was directly under his at that time.)The meeting was something that happens before a child turns 6 years old. It is to see if the child would still be available for the services at school. This is different from an IEP meeting. Our IEP meeting with his teachers, therapists etc is coming up in 2 weeks. Today it was just with the social worker to discus all aspects of Jorge’s life from birth until now and focusing on his diagnosis of Autism. It was also a family history for me and my husband. The two of us were at the meeting.It went really well. I enjoy having the opportunity to speak about our son – his achievements and progressions but more so what it took to get to where he is today. It is about the journey. I am fascinated with my son’s journey, essentially it is our family’s journey but he owns it. We are all in this together. The time flew by while we were at the school. It was enjoyable. We are very happy and blessed that our son is in a great school that provides services that benefit him. This is what happened because we did not give up. We did not settle on his education. We kept pushing and going forward, stopping at nothing to ensure our son would thrive instead of dive. We took matters into our own hands and were lead by faith. It paid off as it always does. It inspires me to help other families and give them hope; to let them know that autism is not a life sentence. I want to reach out to parents with children on the spectrum, to share stories, give advice and to lend a hand on an ongoing journey. As much as I love writing about my son’s journey, I have the passion to instill peace and hope into others that may be all new to this autism thing among others who may have lost hope along the way. never, ever give up. Always give everything, but up.

About Me

My name is Danielle.I have obtained my M.Ed with a concentration in Teaching and Learning.I also hold a Bachelors of Science Degree in Child Studies from Post University.I have learned so much studying education. It is my passion. It brings me joy.
I completed my first student teaching practicum at a public school in the city where I was able to work in two different classrooms. Both classes were Kindergarten.I also completed my observations and assessments in early childhood education at the same public school.My second student teaching experience was at a private school where I worked in a pre kindergarten classroom up until a week before receiving my degree the executive director asked for my resume while I was student teaching so I gave it to her. Two days after I obtained my degree, she called me for an interview. I went to the interview and she must have liked me because she told me she wanted to see how I interact with the children and teach. I was to go back the next week to be observed while working the day inside the pre kindergarten classroom.The second day, she called me into the office to tell me she liked me a lot and offered me a job as the lead pre kindergarten teacher at the school where I did my last student teaching practicum until they opened the brand new school in a month. I never got to go to the new school since the staff and parents really liked me, I stayed where I was placed.Two weeks after my interview I started working inside of the classroom for 9 hours each day. I looked forward to going to work every morning.In June 2013, I resigned from my position as a lead teacher because I wanted to prepare my son, who is on the autism spectrum, for Kindergarten in the coming fall. During the summer of 2013, I taught my son and reinforced many skills. I worked with him in all areas and subjects focusing on his well being.
I am a very happily married woman. My husband Jorge is a great, hard working man. I am blessed to have him and our son in my life. I love my family very much. My husband is very supportive in every way and encouraged me even more to obtain my Masters in Education sooner than I have thought I would.

I love teaching children. It is a true passion of mine. I enjoy play based, project based and constructivist based learning.I enjoy painting and doing arts and crafts. I love creating original projects and lessons for children.I also enjoy taking photos of what I create and sharing them with others. I enjoy documenting the things that I do. I have built a wonderful PLE that I am very proud of and that I look forward to expanding. I am into brain games and use the speed reading program EyeQ.I also do Sudoku.I like to read new age books such as The Four Agreements, The Secret and The Power. I am a big advocate for Autism. For the past couple of years we have been walking for Autism and have raised money to support the cause.I enjoy creating autism awareness pins, ribbons and crafts.I love animals. I have two guinea pigs, George and Zebra Isabelle- my son named both of them.I like taking pictures of things that have meaning to me and enhancing them with different filters to share on the internet.I am so happy that I can share my son’s journey here on my blog hoping that it inspires people everyday. I want to do many things with my passion like writing children’s books and creating my brand for educational supplies and related things.
I love to cook. I would rather be on the internet than watch TV but when I do watch it is something like TedTalks, documentaries, sitcoms or a good movie based on real life.I believe in Karma and giving back as well as paying it forward x 10. I would rather be home with my family than partying or hanging out, unless it is at Barnes and Noble, we love that place.I love traveling. I have been to Canada, Panama and Ecuador. Actually every year we visit my husband’s family in Ecuador. I love the culture. I learned to speak, read and write Spanish about 11.5 years ago. I enjoy teaching English to native Spanish speakers and teaching Spanish to children.
I love God > anything because He placed this passion in my heart. He gave me my husband and our son and continues to bless us each and every day.

Some Fun Facts about JJ…

He likes small and tiny toys and figures.

He likes to put those toys and figures inside plastic bags, socks, ziplocs, bookbags, pouches or whatever else can hold something.

He always has to have and hold something small inside of one of his hands. Whichever hand he is holding something in, he will use the other to write if he needs / has to do so.

He is very sensitive to loud noises and bright lights / sun. He will cover his ears and eyes when exposed to either one.

He flaps out of excitement.

He lines up his toys. 

He loves to read.

He is a morning person for the most part and can be sometimes crabby after school for the first few minutes.

He has many little obsessions at a time such as Angry Birds, Star Wars and Mario Brothers.

An Autism Journey…

Hello everyone!!! I have been writing about my son and his autism journey from last September. My blog posts have sparked a fire in my heart to write a book on it all- from the very beginning until now. I would love to get it published. I would love to share our story in hopes to inspire others as well as educate.I want to let others out there know that autism in not a life sentence or a disability. I want to let others know that there is hope. Autism is a spectrum and no two on it are the same. I want to let others know to believe and keep the faith when things are tough. I want to let others know that our children need us and we must be their biggest fan, supporter and advocate. I am gathering information, researching and beginning to take off with this plan. Let me know if I have your support. It is very much needed and appreciated. Thank you all for reading. I appreciate comments/suggestions.
