RATIONALE

Loorducation – Quality Education for a Quantity of young minds.
The fundamental reason for setting up an early childhood education program like Loorducation is to nourish the minds, bodies and souls of our children and teach them essential lessons that will last a lifetime.
This program is necessary and beneficial to children and their families as well.
I feel that our program is necessary for young children because we teach values, morals, empathy, and compassion – all along with the basics of early childhood education programs like arts and crafts. We teach the children love, kindness and respect for all life. Having this as a foundation will give children high self esteem and nurture their learning.
While children are learning about math or reading they are learning about themselves and the world around them at the same time. We believe this fosters many great qualities that enhance learning. Children not only learn about respect but are given respect and are made known that their feelings count.
Teaching children in this manner will benefit their parents and families. Not only will they feel proud that they are in a nice learning environment but that they are building great character that will make them a successful individual in life. Families benefit from knowing that their children are well guided and taken care of. Children often go home eagerly to share the events of the day with their families.
The theorists that guided my decisions about the program are Friedrich Froebel, Maria Montessori, and B.F. Skinner.
I chose Froebel because he created kindergarten. He promoted play as the way children learn. He developed materials called “gifts for play” and also activities to promote learning. – (Introduction to Early Childhood Education, Eva L. Essa)
I chose Maria Montessori because in her programs children are made to feel important. The environment is child sized; with things in reach for the child.
I chose B.F. Skinner because he believed that the environment is important and it shapes all aspects of a child’s behavior. He also believed in positive reinforcement.-

Autism – A Super Ability

Jorge Loves to read. At only five years old, he is reading well beyond his years. He just found out that I am writing some blog posts about him. I told him and he was so excited. He says that he is on the internet now.It is really special for him. If you would like to send a note, card or letter to Jorge, it would be greatly appreciated. He is able to read it all by himself. My Boy: Part 51

Jorge Juan is very excited that our family is here from Ecuador. He is super happy that he has his cousin, who is 7, to play with. They get along very well. Both of them have been taking good care of Jorge's guinea pigs. Jorge Juan is an only child so to have another kid in the house makes him excited. he has been flapping here and there and continuously jumping out of happiness. he almost had a sensory overload. He is becoming sensitive to sounds again. Loud yells and screams at karate class, he covers his ears. When flusing the toilet, he covers his ears. Now he has not been doing that for a very long time and it started up once again. When I use the Vitamix in the morning to make juice, he has to covers his ears and runs to the living room. Thank God he has not had any ear infections or any problems with his ears ever since he had the tubes put in his ears. Since then, they have fallen out. So far so good.

He had a trip to the dentist the other day. Words cannot describe how proud my husband and I are. There are really no words to describe it. Jorge did an amazing job. Smiling and laughing the whole way through. He even wanted to get x rays of his teeth. he did not need them so the hygienist took an x ray of his finger. he loved it so much. At the end, he got not one, but three toys for doing an amazing job. It was his first real dental cleaning and it was a true success. We are really blessed. He cannot wait to go back again. That day, he had a great day the whole way through and it started from him picking out his clothes for school since he did not have to wear his uniform. He was happy about that and even stated that he was different.

Days like that I forget that he has autism. Usually I do not even think of it any more. To me he is just a kid. He is my child and he is the best he can be in my eyes and i would never want to change hi for the world. Autism is a blessing in disguise. It was not always so but I thank God for Jorge Juan every day. He can see, hear, walk, play and is healthy. What more can I ask for?

My Boy: Part 49

Yesterday at karate, Jorge Juan did not get a lollipop. Usually he does because he listens well but on a day like yesterday, he did not. He was more focused on looking at himself in the mirror, making funny faces and blowing kisses. Through out the class he was also asking repeatedly for a lollipop, hugging the cones and being a wiggle worm. He did say Yes, ma'am and not Yes, sir as he did  days the other days when Su Ba Nim Khyna was leading class. He seems to focus more when Sa Ba Nim is teaching. Master P. really gets him into it. And, as any child, he gets a little tired and lazy on a Saturday morning. He enjoys going and does well on Tuesdays and Thursdays especially.

Lately he has been running to our room around 5 or 6 in the morning to lay back down until school. He does not wake up crying or anything. He will just run and hop in with out saying a word. I got to get him back on track with staying in his bed. If I was a kid, I would love to be and stay in his room. It is awesome.

He is super excited about being on the internet. It is really cute. I finally told him that I write a blog about his story. I showed him this site and his pics. He was jumping up and down, grinning from ear to ear and could not wait to tell Daddy that he is on the internet. I explained to Jorge Juan that I write about him to share his story and successes in hopes that it will inspire others to never give up hoe and to keep faith. As he has come so far since his diagnosis of PDD-NOS, which is a part of the Autism Spectrum. I am pretty sure that he can feel the difference as well. Thank God that he is healthy and thriving.

I found the above pic somewhere on the internet. I really like it. Jorge Juan is very smart and teaches us every day. Right now he is into his angry birds tattoos and lining up his toys to watch TV. I do not like using the word autistic so much so I will just say that I am very proud of my son. Both my husband and I are very proud of his milestones, achievements and over all love for life and God.

AU-Some Story

It was a great productive snow day for Jorge Juan. He was so excited to complete his project about Martin Luther King. He picked out the famous Black American from a whole list. Mind you, he is in Kindergarten. He told me why he chose Dr. King too. The project will be displayed at school for the month of February. He really likes that part. I printed out a few pictures for him of MLK, but he chose which ones he wanted. He then cut out the pictures by himself and pasted them onto colored paper. He chose the colors of the papers himself.


He decided that he wanted to make a book, so that is what it ended up being. He wrote his sentences by himself. He copied my writing on another paper to do so. He put cool stickers on his project. He chose the colors of the pipe cleaners to make the rings. I made the holes from a 3 hole punch but he placed the pipe cleaners in. He was so proud of himself and very happy. It was along project but it was fun and he stayed focused and interested in it. This is a big deal and a great milestone. He even explained to me and my husband who Martin Luther King was.
It was very touching. Patience and discipline has been gained through some times. He has been perfecting his fine motor skills and becomes engaged in the learning process.He has been improving all the time.He is very healthy and I believe the fish oil that he has been taking is assisting with many things in his path way. I have not seen him flap his hand sin a very long time and he has been very mild mannered and behaved.Yeah he still leaves his hat at school, but that is nothing compared to the great advances that he is making. I am so proud of him.Autism is his super power. He has come a long way.
He also read a lot today. He was active and accomplished a lot. He played, watched some quality TV and he learned.Tomorrow he has school and karate.He is excited about his project and to show to his teachers.

Autism will NEVER stop him. EVER

My Boy: Part 43

Right now he is jogging around the mats in karate class. Getting some exercise and focusing. This morning he decorated more of his wall with a variety of stickers. He loves it. He was making scenes. He is very creative and was expressing himself. This is important for children to do.






He still is sensitive to loud noises because as I see now he was covering his ears during the ten step in karate. After he finished he did say it was too loud. He has gotten better though and so much better with that.He has a lot of energy and is using it in a positive way today. He is really trying to work hard towards a red belt. He also has been doing well in school. The only thing is that he keeps losing mitens, hats and scarves and eventually we get them back days or weeks layer. Spiderman is still missing though and that was the coolest hat.






He really loves this app. He uses it all the time. The colors and sounds enligten him. He really focuses with it too. It helps him with fine motor skills. It is great and is soothing too. It is a go to when a break is needed from homework. By the way he stated taking fish oil yesterday. The liquid kind. We believe it is really going to help him as there are many benefits to it. He has been taking chewable omega 3 and it suits Jim well. I have faith in that. More to come on that at a later time. Right now he will have a day of play and learning in his newly cleaned room. Still has so many toys though. He really likes the tiny ones.






We got rid of so much and donated to BBBS. Tiny toys are:great for tinkering. They're wonderful. Children with autism especially love them. I guess he's typically autistic. That's fine with me.

My Boy: Part 42

Little toys everywhere. Tiny. Small. Little. Miniscule. They are everywhere. Jorge Juan loves them. Ever since he was a baby. He always has to hold something in his hands preferably tiny figures, army guys and things of that nature particularly squinkies. I mean everywhere. He puts them in socks, not just his but Daddy's and Mommy's too. I have found them in the couch and in between the seats of the car, in the bathroom and even looking down the drain. Ever since I could remember and even before we knew he had autism, there were little things in his hands and it made him super happy. He never put anything in his mouth either. I remember one time he carried a tiny button around for days and became upset when he lost it. When he falls asleep he always has something small in his hand and sometimes both hands too. In the middle of the night, when he was younger, if he'd drop them or they'd fall..he would cry until they were found. Meaning at whatever hour in the morning we would wake up and have to help him look in his crib/bed. It would really upset him. It gives him comfort and it is not hurting him do I'm okay with that. I would remember what he had in his hands while he was falling asleep so that way if he'd happen to wake up I know what to look for. This was helpful because he was non verbal until after he was 3 and a half years old almost 4. So this is his thing, ya know. It is what he likes. He brings tiny toys in his coat picket on the bus to kindergarten and he used to bring toys when be was in preschool but he had to hand them back to me at the door. When he was a baby one time he had a total of 5 big stuffed animals that he just had to bring in the car. We were going out to eat and he brought them inside. He cried because they would fall be cause it was such a large amount for his hands..I did not understand at the time. I though to myself the behavior wasn't typical though. But typical is boring, right?

My Boy: Part 35

We had a great Christmas. Jorge Juan really had a blast and enjoyed himself. I am so proud of him because he knows the true meaning of Christmas. He is learning so much. He uncovered Baby Jesus from the manger and before we could remind him he said, "Happy Birthday Jesus". That made us so proud. That in itself is such a great Christmas present. This year Jorge is into Star Wars, Angry Birds and Angry Birds Star Wars. Santa brought him any things that he can play with and learn from. He was so excited to even open his underwear and pajama sets..Does it have anything to do with them being Angry Birds Star Wars? lol He cleaned up all of the wrapping paper mess when he was finished. He is learning to play with one set of toys at a time. He is starting to put things back in the box before he goes and open something else. This is great. It is a big step. It was a very nice family day. Jorge was well behaved and appreciate everything.

He truly loves Christmas.
He wrote his own Christmas list and his writing is getting really good. He was excited to do so. Apparently Santa received his list and delivered. He is a true believer.
Last week Jorge performed in a Christmas concert at school. He had been practicing his song all week at home. He was angel number eight. He wore a halo and was a natural on stage. As we were watching him, we saw how very calm he was with his peers sitting down, watching and clapping as others sang and performed. He sang Ten Little Angels with his class. He loved it. He got on the stage like a pro. He waited his turn and did what he had been practicing. He listened for cues and followed along. It was very nice. So proud of him. We took video and many pictures. After he was done, he followed his class off the stage and sat down to enjoy the rest of the show. He never even covered his ears when everyone clapped. He never use to like all that noise and it did not seem to bother him that day. The lights did not bother him either and usually he is sensitive to lights and sounds.
Jorge also was able to enjoy Polar Express Day at school where he got to wear his Spider man pajamas. It was a special treat. He watched Polar Express movie, drank hot cocoa, had some treats and chilled out with his teachers and classmates. These are all great accomplishments for Jorge Juan. they are big steps in the right direction. Like I always say Autism will not stop him. It is his super ability. He is a great gift from God.Since today is my birthday, I am feeling exceptionally blessed because I received and keep on receiving the best gifts that money can never buy. Thank You God.
